Grupo Frontera
Grupo Frontera performed on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at Starlite Occident Madrid. It was the Mexican sextet’s first appearance at the festival in the Spanish capital, as part of the second Christmas edition, held from December 12 to 31.
Grupo Frontera’s first visit to the festival in Madrid
Grupo Frontera’s addition to the line-up was announced on November 6, 2024, when the Starlite Occident Madrid organisers had already confirmed Alejandro Fernández, Vanesa Martín, Niña Pastori, Il Divo, Black Eyed Peas, Camilo, Isabel Pantoja, Taburete and Estopa, as well as the festival’s first New Year’s Eve in the capital with Hombres G and Juan Magán. The band took Tuesday, December 17, with an exclusive presale through the website from Thursday, November 7 at 10 am and general sales from Friday the 8th. It was the sextet’s first time performing at the festival in Madrid, in a second edition that came with a longer run, more concerts and a venue twice the size of 2023.
From Edinburg, Texas, to the auditorium in the capital
In the announcement, the organisers placed Grupo Frontera in the context of the global reach Mexican music has achieved in recent years: one of its most promising bands comes from Edinburg, a city just across the border in Texas. With more than 33 million monthly listeners on digital platforms at the time, the sextet had taken its music beyond the regional scene, with the aim of updating the sounds they grew up with without diluting their essence. “Un x100to”, “De lunes a lunes”, “No se va” and “Que vuelvas” were some of the hits announced for the night of December 17 in the indoor auditorium of Starlite Occident Madrid, fitted with the HOLOPLOT audio system.
The second week of the second edition
Grupo Frontera’s concert opened the second week of Starlite Occident Madrid 2024, one day before Black Eyed Peas (December 18) and ahead of Camilo’s double date (20 and 21), Mau y Ricky on the lounge stage (21) and Clean Bandit (22). DJ Nano’s after parties on Fridays 20 and 27, and the concerts by Isabel Pantoja, Taburete and Estopa, completed a programme that closed on December 31 with the festival’s first New Year’s Eve party in Madrid. Around the concerts, the edition offered the festival’s own restaurants, such as Tanabata, Raffaella and Ánima, a Food Hall with stalls and food trucks, Christmas shopping and a gourmet proposal in the box area from 7 pm.
With Grupo Frontera, Starlite Occident Madrid 2024 brought regional Mexican music to its Christmas season for the first time, on a Tuesday that opened the second week of concerts.
