Hombres G
Hombres G performed at Starlite Occident Madrid on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at the Christmas edition’s first New Year’s Eve party. Their concert was the last of 2024 in the auditorium and brought the second edition in the capital to a close.
The first New Year’s Eve at Starlite Occident Madrid
The second edition of Starlite Occident Madrid ran from December 12 to 31, 2024, in a venue twice the size of the previous year’s and with a programme that combined concerts, food, Christmas shopping and after parties. For the last night of the year, the organisers put together a full New Year’s Eve party for the first time: doors at 7 pm, the Hombres G concert at 10 pm, the traditional twelve grapes, party favours, an open bar from midnight and an after party with Juan Magán until 6 am. Guests could have dinner at the venue’s restaurants (Ánima, Tanabata and Raffaella) or at the Food Hall, and box ticket holders had dinner included. All in all, more than ten hours of music to see out 2024.
“Devuélveme a mi chica” and the anthems of a generation
Hombres G took the stage with their original line-up: David Summers (vocals and bass), Rafa Gutiérrez (guitar), Dani Mezquita (guitar) and Javi Molina (drums). The Madrid band, active since 1983 and an icon of carefree eighties pop, strung their hits together one after another. “Voy a pasármelo bien”, which summed up the mood of the night, was there, as was the opening of “Devuélveme a mi chica”, sung back by the whole auditorium: “Estoy llorando en mi habitación, todo se nubla a mi alrededor…”. They also played “Venezia”, “El ataque de las chicas cocodrilo”, “Mujer de bandera”, “Si no te tengo a ti” and “No te puedo besar”, songs that, in the organisers’ words, have not only stood the test of time but grown with it.
A golden finish to the second edition
After the concert, the party moved to the lounge with Juan Magán’s set, which welcomed in 2025 from behind the decks. Among the audience on the final night were pianist Chucho Valdés, actor and musician Pablo Carbonell, singer Juan Peña, writer Irene Villa and businessman Hamza Zaidi. With New Year’s Eve, Starlite Occident Madrid closed twenty days of programming in which the line-up brought together Alejandro Fernández, Vanesa Martín, Niña Pastori, Il Divo, Grupo Frontera, Black Eyed Peas, Camilo, Mau & Ricky, Clean Bandit, Isabel Pantoja, Taburete and Estopa. The set-up was built in six days, with more than a million sequins, half a million lights and 30,000 balloons, and, according to the organisers, created more than 1,000 jobs in the capital.
Hombres G provided the soundtrack to the first New Year’s Eve at Starlite Occident Madrid: the last concert of 2024 and the close of the edition.
