Mau y Ricky
Mau y Ricky performed at Starlite Occident Madrid on Saturday, December 21, 2024. The Venezuelan duo was one of the last additions to the line-up of the second Christmas edition and took the Lounge stage, the venue’s late-night space.
The last addition to the 2024 line-up
The Mau y Ricky show was announced on November 8, 2024, when the bill for the second winter season was almost complete with Alejandro Fernández, Vanesa Martín, Niña Pastori, Il Divo, Grupo Frontera, Black Eyed Peas, Camilo, Clean Bandit, Isabel Pantoja, Taburete and Estopa. The Venezuelan brothers joined with a slot unlike the rest: their concert was scheduled on the Lounge stage, on the same night Camilo gave the second of his two shows in the auditorium. The edition ran for twenty days, from December 12 to 31, in a venue twice the size of the 2023 one, with concerts, dining, Christmas shopping and after parties at Starlite Sessions.
“Hotel Caracas”, a journey back to their roots
Mau y Ricky came to Madrid with “Hotel Caracas”, the record the organisers themselves presented as their most personal and honest work. The album, which earned the brothers three Latin Grammy nominations, looks back to their roots in Venezuela with songs such as “Vas a destrozarme”, “Pasado mañana”, “Canción 2” and “Gran día”. That was the repertoire announced for the night of December 21, together with the hits that made them one of the references of the new Latin scene: “Desconocidos”, “La boca” and “Mi mala”, from their debut album “Para aventuras y curiosidades”, which reached the top of the charts across the Americas.
Pop and reggaeton in the week before Christmas
Mau y Ricky blend pop and reggaeton in a duo format that has become one of the hallmarks of recent Latin music. Their date at Starlite Occident Madrid fell on the busiest weekend of the edition: Camilo had played on Friday the 20th, with a DJ Nano after party, and Clean Bandit closed on Sunday the 22nd. After that week, the calendar continued with Isabel Pantoja, Taburete and Estopa, and on December 31 the festival held its first New Year’s Eve in the capital, with Hombres G and Juan Magán. The Mau y Ricky concert was the youngest Latin pop contribution to a bill that mixed Spanish and international names.
Mau y Ricky’s night brought Latin pop to the Lounge stage of Starlite Occident Madrid at the second edition, in the heart of the weekend before Christmas 2024.
