ARCHIVE/Marbella 2022
Carlos Vives
Carlos Vives performed at Starlite Occident Marbella on July 15, 2022, five years after his first visit in 2017. The Colombian singer found in the quarry a landscape that reminded him of the Caribbean he comes from.
A place that reminds him of the Caribbean
"This place reminds me a lot of where I come from, the Caribbean, which is a tropical dry forest, a very high mountain that gives itself to the sea and has this same spirit... The evening light... There is something that connects me wonderfully, and for the music I make it is fantastic", Carlos Vives explained on stage. The artist, who created a sound of his own from the traditional music of Colombia's Caribbean coast and north, also recalled his ties with the line-up: "I have recorded songs with many of the artists who have already been here, or who are taking part this year: Camilo, Juanes, Sebastián Yatra, Ricky Martin…".
From "Quiero verte sonreír" to "Cuando nos volvamos a encontrar"
Vives opened with "Quiero verte sonreír" and went through the songs that have defined his career alongside the most recent ones. "Fruta fresca", "Robarte un beso" and "La gota fría" were among the most sung by an audience that danced throughout the concert. For the finale he chose "Teke Teke" and "Cuando nos volvamos a encontrar", which he dedicated to Valeria Mazza and Alejandro Gravier. The Colombian has won two Grammy Awards and fifteen Latin Grammys, as well as the Premio Ondas for his contribution to Latin American music.
Thanks to the founders and Fabbio at Sessions
Before saying goodbye, the singer addressed festival founders Sandra García-Sanjuán and Ignacio Maluquer: "Thank you, Sandra and Ignacio, for this opportunity to return today, in this way and with so much affection". Both watched the concert from the presidential box with Vives's wife and children, Valeria Mazza and Alejandro Gravier, actor Alejandro Nones and Begoña Trapote. Gunilla von Bismarck, Luis Miguel Rodríguez and bullfighter Antonio Pavón also attended. That same night, the Sessions space hosted a live set by Fabbio, with songs such as "Diablita remix".
Carlos Vives came back to Starlite Occident Marbella five years on and found in the quarry a landscape much like that of his homeland.
