ARCHIVE/Marbella 2022
José Mercé
José Mercé performed at Starlite Occident Marbella on June 25, 2022. The flamenco singer from Jerez presented his album "Oripandó" alongside his classic repertoire and closed with a cappella bulerías.
"Oripandó" and the traditional flamenco forms
Alongside seguiriyas, malagueñas, fandangos and other flamenco forms, Mercé presented "Oripandó", an album written together with Antonio Orozco. The singer thanked the festival's founders for the invitation: "Thank you to Sandra and Ignacio for their wonderful work, because this festival grows internationally every year. Everyone knows it. Long live this festival!".
"Flamenco is eternal"
The recital continued with "Tu frialdad", accompanied by Málaga violinist Jesús Reina, in front of a silent audience. "La primavera", "Al Alba" and "Aire" followed. "Flamenco and roots music have no fashion; some days we'll be up, others down, but what is clear is that flamenco is eternal, that it is our music", Mercé said.
A cappella bulerías and a song for his son
Singing without amplification and making the most of the quarry's acoustics, the artist offered an a cappella bulerías finale. With the audience asking him not to leave, he closed with "Jamás desaparece", one of his new songs, which he sang with emotion in honour of his son. Óscar Martínez and his wife, Marina Borensztein, were among those attending.
No microphone, just bulerías: José Mercé said goodbye to Starlite Occident Marbella in 2022 by letting the quarry do the amplifying.
