ARCHIVE/Marbella 2022
Miguel Poveda
Miguel Poveda performed at Starlite Occident Marbella on August 27, 2022. The flamenco singer presented "Diverso", his latest album, in a concert that looked back over his 33-year career.
"Every year means climbing one more step"
Poveda was returning to the quarry after his 2019 performance, with five editions of the festival behind him. "This festival grows every year and coming here is a great responsibility. It's a lovely date because I'm with my people and I feel supported, but every year means climbing one more step in this wonderful quarry," he said. Winner of Spain's National Music Award and the Medal of Andalusia, with several Latin Grammy nominations, he has sung alongside Enrique Morente, Serrat, Chavela Vargas and Alejandro Sanz.
"Diverso": flamenco, copla, tango and Mexican folk
The album he presented moves through the genres that have fed his career, with flamenco at the centre: Andalusian song, tango and Mexican folk music. Among the most applauded songs were "La Senda del Viento", "Patria" and "Triana, Puente y la Habana", which brought the audience to its feet several times. Those attending included Nicaraguan singer-songwriter Hernaldo Zúñiga, author of "Procuro Olvidarte", with his wife, Lorenza Azcárraga. Afterwards, the Sessions space hosted the festival debut of Mexican singer Chino Orozco.
Miguel Poveda described Starlite Occident Marbella as a place where he is among his own people; in 2022 he gave it a look back over 33 years of career.
