Sara Baras
Sara Baras performed at Starlite Occident Marbella on August 16, 2022, with "Alma", a show that brings flamenco and bolero together. The dancer dedicated one of the pieces to her father and invited her sister to dance it with her.
"Alma": flamenco and bolero
"Alma" is the show with which Sara Baras returns to her roots and looks back over her career. A dancer, director and choreographer, she has given more than 4,000 performances with her company. At the quarry, flamenco and bolero alternated to the rhythm of seguiriyas, soleás, cañas, garrotín and bulerías, on one of the evenings of the festival's eleventh edition. It was not her first time: in 2020 she had already created a show of her own for this stage.
A piece for her father
In one of the most emotional moments, the artist invited her sister to dance with her and explained the dedication: "This piece is dedicated to my father, who was in love with boleros and with flamenco, and with the two together. He is in heaven, and today is the birthday of someone my father loved very much, my brother-in-law's mother. Mari, I love you, many happy returns".
"A place I consider my home"
Before saying goodbye, Sara Baras addressed the audience: "It is an honour to be at Starlite Occident, in this magical place that I consider my home. I have been coming for many years, since the beginning. This festival is wonderful, and it is an honour to dance and share our soul with you". Those attending included film director Roland Joffé and actress Cayetana Guillén-Cuervo, president of Spain's Academy of Performing Arts. The night continued in the Sessions area with Juan Magán.
With "Alma", Sara Baras brought to Starlite Occident Marbella a dance between flamenco and bolero, and a dedication that made the show a family affair.
