Serrat
Serrat performed at Starlite Occident Marbella on July 23, 2022 as part of "El vicio de cantar", the tour with which he said farewell to the stage after a career of more than 57 years.
"This is a goodbye, but only to the stage"
"This is a goodbye, but only to the stage. I'm not retiring from living." That was how Serrat framed his farewell to live concerts, and at the Auditorium his voice and poise were still intact. He opened with "Dale que dale" and then greeted the audience: "I have come to say goodbye to you in person. This is a farewell party, a big one, and we are going to share it on this important stage. Let's set aside nostalgia and melancholy, because from now on all we have is future." The tour takes its name from what has been his trade since he started out in 1965.
From "Mi niñez" to "La saeta"
"Mi niñez" brought the audience to its feet, ready to sing along to the whole set. One of the most moving moments was the duet with Úrsula Amargós on "Es caprichoso el azar". "Lucía", "Aquellas pequeñas cosas" and "Hoy puede ser un gran día" were among the best-received songs, and "Mediterráneo" moved the Auditorium. Before the encores came "Cantares", based on Machado's verses, and the audience spent several minutes asking for the concert not to end. Serrat answered with "Penélope", "Esos locos bajitos" and "La saeta", which closed the night. "Thank you for all the affection. You have made this a magical, wonderful night", he said as he left.
Friends and family in the Presidential Box
Antonio Banderas and Nicole Kimpel, and actor Óscar Martínez with Marina Borensztein, watched the concert from the Presidential Box with Sandra García-Sanjuán and Ignacio Maluquer. Luna Serrat, the singer's granddaughter, was there with Alba Díaz, as was Fernando Martínez de Irujo. Manuel Campo Vidal and María Casado also attended. The night left a line from Fernando Lobo, who dedicated a poem to the artist: "the vice of singing has no cure, the vice of living is one nobody can dodge".
Serrat chose Starlite Occident Marbella as one of the stops on his farewell and left with the Auditorium on its feet, asking him for one more song.
