Simple Minds
Simple Minds performed at Starlite Occident Marbella on July 29, 2022, ten years after their festival debut in the summer of 2012, with a concert that looked back over four decades of music.
Ten years after their first visit
The Scottish band brought back to La Cantera many of the fans who saw them in 2012. A reference point of the 1980s and active for more than four decades, Simple Minds have 20 studio albums and more than 60 million records sold worldwide. The musicians addressed the audience in their best attempt at Spanish: "It is a great pleasure to be here once again, we would stay all night."
"Alive and Kicking", "Belfast Child" and an encore of "Sanctify Yourself"
Highlights of the set included "Alive and Kicking", "Belfast Child" and "Don't You (Forget About Me)", songs revisited on their most recent release, conceived as a tribute to the group's 40-year history. After a broad run through their hits came the encores, and the band said goodbye with a version of "Sanctify Yourself" that drew a long ovation from the Auditorium.
Antonio Banderas and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers in the audience
Nicole and Barbara Kimpel celebrated their birthday that night with a dinner for friends attended by Antonio Banderas; Irish actor Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, with his wife, actress Mara Lane, and Frederic Lerner, accompanied by his sister. Fran Rivera, Luján Argüelles, Alejandro Nones and Begoña and Pedro Trapote also watched the concert.
A decade separates Simple Minds' two visits to Starlite Occident Marbella; on the second, much of the audience was the same as on the first.
