The godfather of punk at 76 in the cantera
With his jeans and no shirt as expected, the 76-year-old punk legend, Iggy Pop, appeared at Starlite Occident Marbella. With his punk-rock show, Iggy Pop made history at the boutique festival. The Grammys have awarded him the Lifetime Achievement Award: his contribution to punk rock history is mastodonic. While history says punk was born in the UK in 1977, in 1969 Iggy Pop and his band Stooges already revolutionised music with their raw rock or proto-punk in America. All subsequent punk bands admit having been influenced by this extravagant young man who moved like a lizard.
The Passenger, Lust for Life and Raw Power
The boutique festival burst into sharp guitars and raw rock from the best: Iggy Pop. The undisputed godfather of punk moved tirelessly across the stage showing his excellent physical form, performing mythical songs like "The Passenger", "Lust for Life", "Frenzy", "Loose" and "Raw Power". His first records with The Stooges —"The Stooges" (1969), "Funhouse" (1970) and "Raw Power" (1973)— are endless references. His close relationship with David Bowie, with whom he co-wrote and produced his first two solo albums, is considered one of the most epic musical alliances in history.
Every Loser with Duff McKagan and Chad Smith
In January 2023, Iggy Pop released "Every Loser", an 11-song album recorded with Duff McKagan (Guns N' Roses bassist) and Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer). Another delivery of pure rock coherence and legitimacy made in Iggy. Among the crowd, familiar faces like singers Sofía Ellar and Willy Bárcenas (Taburete) with his wife Loreto Sesma, Prince Hubertus von Hohenlohe with Simona Gandolfi, TV host Carlos Sobera and Marta Martínez-Bordiú attended the concert with their best rocker looks.
With Iggy Pop, Starlite Occident Marbella writes one of the most rocking pages of its history: the godfather of punk at a cantera where his rawest music rang as current as half a century ago.
