Miguel Ríos again made history at Starlite Occident Marbella on August 21, 2023, with the celebration of 40 years of ROCK&RÍOS, the album that changed the history of Spanish rock.
Fourth visit of the Granada rocker to the cantera
After impressive performances in 2018 and 2021, plus the 2016 "El Gusto es nuestro" tribute concert with Víctor Manuel, Serrat and Ana Belén, Miguel Ríos returned to Starlite Occident Marbella to commemorate the album that changed contemporary Spanish rock history 40 years ago: ROCK&RÍOS. In 1982 he summoned "the night's allies" at Madrid's Palacio de los Deportes. Nearly a million copies sold. "I'm almost a Starlite Occident subscriber, I'm very happy to be back. Its value is that it gives voice to everyone who has something to say in music," he declared.
Bienvenidos, Santa Lucía, Himno a la Alegría
In 1969 Miguel Ríos achieved his first major international triumph with his adaptation of Beethoven's Ode to Joy, selling seven million copies worldwide. Awarded the Gold Medal of Merit in Fine Arts in 1993, the Spanish rock landscape would make no sense without his unavoidable influence. "Bienvenidos", "El blues del autobús", "Santa Lucía", "Himno a la Alegría", "Los viejos rockeros nunca mueren" and "El rock de la cárcel" rang out. This presentation was an essential date on his 40th anniversary tour.
La Mari de Chambao, Lúa Ríos and Matthias Tanzmann at Sessions
To the Auditorium's surprise, he featured great invitations: Annie B. Sweet with "Nueva ola"; La Mari de Chambao with "El río"; Rebeca Jiménez on "Reina de la noche"; Javier Ojeda on "Roncanrol Búmerang"; and Lúa Ríos, his own daughter, with whom he shared "Extraños en el escaparate". The audience included familiar faces like Gunilla von Bismarck and Luis Ortiz, and Fernando Martínez de Irujo. After the concert, Starlite Occident Marbella continued its great afterparty at Sessions with one of the best international DJs, German techno star Matthias Tanzmann.
With Miguel Ríos, Starlite Occident Marbella reaffirms its Auditorium as the home of the most historic Spanish rock, where the Granada godfather celebrates every important anniversary with the audience that has grown with his anthems.
