The Panamanian salsa legend with his Big Band
Starlite Occident Marbella witnessed the imposing show "Salswing", with which Panamanian Rubén Blades, accompanied by Roberto Delgado Big Band (eight-time Grammy and Latin Grammy winner), has reaped success worldwide. Rubén Blades is a Latin music legend and has received numerous recognitions throughout his career. In 2021, the Latin Recording Academy awarded him the title of Person of the Year and he has won 10 Grammy Awards and 12 Latin Grammys. It all started with his contribution to the salsa revolution in New York in the 70s, establishing him as one of the genre's most influential artists.
Pedro Navaja, Plástico and salsa with social conscience
Blades is known for fusing rock, jazz and Afro-Cuban root music. His eloquent lyrics with social weight, combined with unforgettable melodies, have captured thousands of hearts. Songs like "Pedro Navaja", "Amor y Control", "Decisiones" and "Plástico" are universal hits. "Salsa music is a way to document our reality, to talk about things we don't talk about," he declared. His powerful, expressive voice filled every corner of the Auditorium. The concert was also a reflection on social issues through his honest lyrics.
Lágrimas, El cantante and Maestra Vida as closing
"One day I asked my grandmother if we were poor. Poor people are people who have nothing in their head, nothing in their spirit. There are people who are so poor, all they have is money," Blades told. "Lágrimas", "The way you look tonight", "El cantante", "Todos vuelven", "Las calles" and "Ligia Elena" rang out. For a golden touch, Rubén Blades said goodbye with "Maestra Vida". Among the attendees, Bayer footballer Piero Hincapié was seen surrendered enjoying the concert.
With Rubén Blades, Starlite Occident Marbella confirms its Auditorium as a stage for the great salsa legends with social conscience who have documented Latin American reality for half a century.
