Sara Baras
Sara Baras triumphed at Starlite Occident Marbella on August 9, 2023, with her show 'Alma', a tribute to her father and to boleros coexisting with seguiriya, soleá and bulería.
The Cádiz dancer who feels at home at the cantera
The Starlite Occident Marbella Auditorium became a great flamenco tablao with the presentation of "Alma" by Sara Baras. "I'm so excited to return to Starlite Occident, because I feel at home. I'm made for this team and I love them," the Cádiz dancer said before her performance. Considered one of the most prominent and recognised representatives of the performing arts internationally, Baras is a dancer, director and choreographer of unquestionable talent. With over 4,000 performances alongside the Ballet Flamenco Sara Baras, she has taken her art to the world's best theatres, becoming an exemplary ambassador of Spanish culture.
Alma: flamenco and boleros as a gift to her father
"Alma" arrived at the Marbella cantera to transmit the essence of her Cádiz roots. A show where flamenco interweaves with bolero, transforming into seguiriya, soleá, caña, garrotín, bulería and much more. "Alma is dedicated to my father and to the boleros he always loved. But instead of a gift to him, Alma is being a gift to us," Baras declared. "Flamenco doesn't understand borders or carry passports. It goes straight to the heart. It has a very difficult technique, but you have to work it so much that you reach a level where you can forget it and be carried by what you feel". A truth and a passion that strike home.
Reyes Maroto, Cayetano Martínez de Irujo and Juan Magán
Familiar faces like Reyes Maroto, Cayetano Martínez de Irujo, Jaime and Marta Martínez-Bordiú, Cayetana Guillén-Cuervo and Omar Ayyashi, Pedro and Begoña Trapote, Vicky Larraz and Makoke, among others, let themselves be carried by emotion and surrendered to the duende emanating from the dancer. Baras has shared stages with Paco de Lucía, Raphael, Chavela Vargas and Alejandro Sanz. After the Auditorium show, Juan Magán took over at Sessions delivering a great afterparty under the stars.
With Sara Baras, Starlite Occident Marbella reaffirms its Auditorium as the international home of the most exquisite flamenco, where the Cádiz master turns every visit into a celebration of the most universal Spanish art.
