Wilco
Wilco, the most respected American indie folk band of the moment, debuted at Starlite Occident Marbella on August 16, 2023, with Jeff Tweedy at the front and their Cruel Country sound.
The cult band that broke mainstream barriers
Starlite Occident Marbella had the pleasure of welcoming for the first time one of the bands that has managed to surpass success in the renowned independent scene and position its name in the mainstream without making commercial music. The "even harder" few artists have achieved: Radiohead, Arcade Fire, Bjork. Wilco has been earning critical praise for years and has become a cult band thanks to the lyrics and melodies of its founder, Jeff Tweedy, who gathered the initial lineup in 1994 from Uncle Tupelo. Once awarded and seven times nominated for GRAMMY Awards.
Cruel Country and indie rock classics
Over the decades, Wilco has evolved from its country roots to a mature, eclectic indie rock band, consolidating as one of the most acclaimed American rock formations by specialised press in the last 20 years. They have released 12 studio albums. The classics that have captivated their followers —"Jesus, Etc.", "If I Ever Was A Child", "Impossible Germany", "How To Fight Loneliness" and "Love is everywhere"— rang out alongside songs from the most recent "Cruel Country" (2022) at the emblematic cantera.
Cousin with Cate Le Bon and DJ Nano closing
The Chicago band shone delivering a concert that encapsulated their personal style. Wilco has always stood out for impeccable live sets showcasing all members' virtuosity. The previous week they had announced "Cousin", their thirteenth album, produced by Welsh artist Cate Le Bon —the first time Wilco gives production control to an outsider since "Sky Blue Sky"—. After the concert, Juan Magán closed the night at Sessions, proving why he is one of the best artists of today's mainstream club scene with hits like "Bailando por ahí", "Por fin te encontré" and "Verano azul".
With Wilco, Starlite Occident Marbella reaffirms its Auditorium as a European destination for cult bands of American indie escaping the mainstream circuit without losing artistic quality.
