Date: 16 JulVenue: Marbella

Carlos Vives, the king of vallenato and Latin Grammys Person of the Year, conquered Starlite Occident Marbella on July 16, 2024, with his 'El Rock de Mi Pueblo Vive' tour and a Caribbean party sell-out.

Colombian Pop returns for the third time to the cantera

For Carlos Vives, an undisputed standard-bearer of Latin music, 2023 was unforgettable: he celebrated three decades of career with a US tour. With the "El Rock de Mi Pueblo Vive" tour, the Colombian musician returned to Marbella, where he had already enchanted the festival audience in 2017 and 2022. "I'm happy to go to places like Marbella, which is already an institution for us. That festival, Starlite Occident, is crazy." The Santa Marta-born artist jumped on stage energetic and close, backed by his band La Provincia, in an Auditorium witness to a vallenato master class. "Starlite Occident's audience is cosmopolitan and international, people come from everywhere," he said.

La Gota Fría, Fruta fresca and the Provincia classics

At 62, the artist sang with traditional rhythms "La Cañaguatera", "La Gota Fría" or "El Cantor de Fonseca", the first song his father taught him. The flute brought in "Fruta fresca", the song that pays tribute to passionate love: "Sí, sí, sí. Que este amor es tan profundo. Que tú eres mi consentida y que lo sepa todo el mundo" sung in unison. The vallenato chords were the sound of his childhood and the seed of "Clásicos de la Provincia" (1993), the album that took him to stardom and whose playlist filled Marbella.

Collaborations with Marc Anthony, Shakira and familiar faces

The composer rumbed mixing successful collaborations: "Cuando nos volvamos a encontrar" with Marc Anthony; "Las Mujeres" with Juanes; "Canción Bonita" with Ricky Martin; "Robarte un beso" with Sebastián Yatra or "La bicicleta" by Shakira. "El Rock De Mi Pueblo Vive" is a tribute to the cultural movement Vives fostered in the 90s, baptised as "Colombian Pop". With his eighteenth Latin Grammy and Grammy 2024 nominations, he reaffirms his position as ambassador of the Colombian sound. Enjoying: Claudia Elena Vásquez, the singer's wife, Lili Estefan, Nicole and Barbara Kimpel, Frédéric Lerner, Hubertus Hohenlohe and Simona Gandolfi, and Marta Martínez-Bordiú.

With Carlos Vives, Starlite Occident Marbella confirms its Auditorium as a Caribbean destination at the heart of Andalusia, where vallenato finds the international audience that celebrates its authenticity.
