Hombres G

Date: 31 AugVenue: Marbella

Hombres G closed the XIII edition of Starlite Occident Marbella in style on August 31, 2024, with a full house and the Spanish pop anthems that have shaped generations since the 80s.

Closing the XIII edition with the kings of Spanish pop

"Estoy llorando en mi habitación, todo se nubla a mi alrededor, ella se fue con un niño pijo, en un Ford Fiesta blanco, y un jersey amarillo…". Few song openings have been hummed with more strength, joy and nostalgia than "Devuélveme a mi Chica" by Hombres G, a true myth of Spanish pop history. The voices of the audience filled Starlite Occident Marbella as the successful, acclaimed XIII edition came to a close. "We're very proud to be closing this edition. You don't know how happy we are tonight at Starlite Occident, on one of the most impressive stages," they admitted.

Forty years of hits from the five 80s albums

David Summers (vocals and bass), Rafa Gutiérrez (guitar), Dani Mezquita (guitar) and Javi Molina (drums) showed from the start they were there with the goal of "Voy a pasármelo bien". "Venezia", "El Ataque de las Chicas Cocodrilo", "Marta Tiene un Marcapasos", "Mujer de bandera", "Si no te tengo a ti", "No te puedo besar"… An endless list of hits from their first five 80s albums: "Hombres G" (1985), "La Cagaste… Burt Lancaster" (1986), "Estamos Locos… ¿o Qué?" (1987), "Agitar antes de Usar" (1988) and "Voy a Pasármelo Bien" (1989). Back then, emulating the Beatles, the band packed stadiums when no one else did.

Forty years on, David, Rafa, Dani and Javi keep intact that charm that made them the Spanish group that sold the most records of its time and the first band to cross the ocean. Familiar faces in the crowd included Fernando Tejero, David Silva and Marta Martínez-Bordiú. As a final touch, Juan Magán signed his tenth and last evening at Sessions. Alongside David Summers, Fernando Tejero, Sandra García-Sanjuán and Marta Martínez-Bordiú they sang "Devuélveme a mi chica". As resident DJ of the edition, he made the audience dance until dawn.

With Hombres G, Starlite Occident Marbella closes its XIII edition confirming its Auditorium as the home of the living history of Spanish pop, where the national myths find the closing they deserve.
