Julian Marley and The Uprising shared with the Starlite Occident Marbella audience a bit of their Jamaica, recreating a relaxed, good-vibes atmosphere with reggae tracks and rhythms from a mix of styles like ska, rocksteady, jazz, calypso, rhythm & blues and hip-hop. In great form after obtaining the 2024 Grammy for Best Reggae Album with "Colors of Royal" (2023), Julian Marley showered ease and savoir-faire on the Auditorium stage. Songwriter, singer and multi-instrumentalist, the British artist has always balanced his life between the UK and Jamaica.
Colors of Royal, As I Am and the Bob Marley classics
Julian Marley walked through some of the best-known songs of his career, included in records like the mentioned "Colors of Royal", "As I Am" (2019), "Awake" (2009) or "Lion In The Morning" (1996). He also performed some of his father Bob Marley's songs, an absolute legend of reggae and the philosophy of goodwill, spirituality and social justice. "Jamming", "Exodus" and "Is This Love", timeless classics, sounded in his voice pure magic, transporting the audience to that era when Bob Marley revolutionised music selling over 75 million records.
Awake as openers and reggae ambassadors
The first musical note of the night was played by Awake, the reggae band uniting Ras Kuko, leader and founder of Cañaman, with the precursors of Malaka Youth. Songs with their own seal and a very personal sound in a magical, powerful show. Julian Marley, known as Ju-ju Marley, was born in London in 1975, son of Bob Marley's relationship with Lucy Pounder. Today, Julian Marley and The Uprising are immersed in a world tour serving as great ambassadors of reggae music, making clear that this style remains as current as ever.
