Kaene
Keane landed for the first time in Málaga on July 9, 2024, with their only Starlite Occident Marbella concert, celebrating the 20th anniversary of their debut album 'Hopes and Fears'.
First time in Málaga and only Andalusian date
Keane landed for the first time in Málaga to offer their first Starlite Occident Marbella concert: a unique date under the stars to celebrate the 20th anniversary of "Hopes and Fears" (2004). The Battle (England) quartet appeared with the three original members: Tom Chaplin (vocals and guitar), Tim Rice-Oxley (songwriter and keyboards) and Richard Hughes (drums), plus Jesse Quin (bass) joined in 2007. Their Starlite Occident Marbella date was one of the only three Spanish stops on the band's tour. "It's the first time we're at Starlite Occident, and tonight everything has been an incredible surprise," Chaplin declared.
Somewhere Only We Know and the Hopes and Fears anthems
"Somewhere Only We Know" is the song that launched Keane to global fame. 20 years on, it still moves like day one: more than 1.5 billion streams on Spotify, ranked 48 in Rolling Stone's 100 best songs of the 21st century, and viral on TikTok. Classics like "Everybody's Changing", "This is the Last Time" or "We Might As Well Be Strangers" also rang out. Admirers of David Bowie, Nick Drake, Blondie, The Beatles, U2 or Simple Minds, Keane also performed songs from their other albums with which they have sold over 12 million copies: "Nothing in my way", "Is it any wonder?", "Silenced by the night" or "Perfect symmetry".
Spain wins the Euros and The Corrs in the box
The audience also celebrated the Spanish football team's victory. "Spain just won the match. Well, I hope to see you in the final! Don't be sad if you lose to England on penalties," Tom Chaplin joked. "We promise not to take another 20 years to come back," he said goodbye. From the presidential box, siblings Jim, Andrea and Caroline Corr of The Corrs enjoyed the concert, returning to perform the following day. Also Hubertus Von Hohenlohe, Simona Gandolfi, Sergio Scariolo, Blanca Ares and Marta Martínez-Bordiú.
With Keane, Starlite Occident Marbella reaffirms its Auditorium as a unique Spanish stage for the most exciting britpop anniversaries that have shaped an entire generation.
