La Oreja De Van Gogh
La Oreja De Van Gogh signed a sold out at Starlite Occident Marbella on August 14, 2024, with their most iconic repertoire and a crowd that sang in unison nearly three decades of Spanish pop anthems.
Almost 30 years later, their songs are still alive
It feels like yesterday when the catchy chorus of a strangely named band was first heard: "Como dijo aquel genio, esta vida es un sueño, y soñaré…". The song was "Soñaré" and the band, La Oreja de Van Gogh, five kids from San Sebastián who had spent years covering famous bands like U2, Nirvana or Pearl Jam. The genius's prophecy came true again at Starlite Occident Marbella, and the audience dreamed again with songs that have echoed throughout our lives. The band chose this name one afternoon over drinks in a bar, and has built a vast catalogue of classics that would fill several concerts.
A giant sing-along with all the anthems
The Nagüeles cantera became a giant "sing-along" with the whole audience chanting songs as popular as "París", "La Playa", "Pop", "Rosas", "Puedes contar conmigo", "20 de enero", "Diciembre", "El primer día", "Verano", "Jueves" or "Muñeca de trapo". Leire Martínez was vocally on fire and showed great complicity with the rest of the members, Pablo Benegas (guitar), Xabi San Martín (keys), Álvaro Fuentes (bass) and Haritz Garde (drums), making clear the good moment the band —close to turning 30— is going through.
Un Susurro en la Tormenta and familiar faces
Throughout the show, they also performed songs from their latest studio album, "Un Susurro en la Tormenta" (2020), like "Abrázame" or "Sirenas". La Oreja de Van Gogh sounded more in sync than ever, the result of almost three years touring with their latest record. True to their fresh pop, catchy choruses and lyrics halfway between poetry and everyday experiences, they need no big tricks to succeed. Familiar faces enjoying the concert included Sheila Casas, Victoria Federica, Juan Magán, Valeria Mazza and Alejandro Gravier, Mario Jefferson and Paula Koops.
With La Oreja De Van Gogh, Starlite Occident Marbella reaffirms its Auditorium as a space where sometimes less is more: fresh pop, catchy choruses and almost thirty years of a Spanish collective soundtrack.
