Maldita Nerea

Date: 27 JulVenue: Marbella

Maldita Nerea conquered Starlite Occident Marbella on July 27, 2024, with their 'Manual para seres maravillosos', delivering a night of honest pop with their 'tortugas' singing every chorus.

The Tortugas sing along at the Marbella Auditorium

For Maldita Nerea, a band with one of the most solid careers in Spanish music, the live challenge is to have the audience identify and sing from the first notes. That's what happened at the Starlite Occident Marbella Auditorium. The "tortugas", as the Murcian pop group calls their huge fan legion, sang in unison. With a repertoire that for many is their life's soundtrack, Jorge Ruiz, vocalist and soul of the group, led a concert where the new and the epic coexisted. One of the highlights was "El secreto de las Tortugas", the song that names their fans, an anthem to resilience and the importance of living the present moment.

Bailarina, Inevitable and Manual para seres maravillosos

Maldita Nerea is touring Spain with "Manual para seres maravillosos" (2023), the seventh album of their career and the boldest. "Bailarina", tribute to women; "Por el Miedo a Equivocarnos", reflection on failed relationships; "Cosas que suenan a…" about the search for simplicity; and "En el Mundo Genial de las Cosas que Dices". Among the 11 new gems rang out "Madre" or "Inevitable", a song specifically directed at children and the entire educational community. Jorge Ruiz, speech therapist by profession, combines his career with activities linked to education. "I'd like to live up to it. Honour the tradition at this festival", he said.

84 at Sessions with Bonita resaca and the Marlons

"Tonight has been incredible, truly thank you Marbella, thank you Starlite Occident. This audience singing is wonderful. We need more places like this and people like you: with less fear", Maldita Nerea declared. The evening continued at the Sessions stage where 84 took over. The group, which since 2005 has been singing to Madrid, returned to the festival with "Historias del arte", "El Burdel de las Sirenas" or "Flor de primavera" —recorded with Marlon, who would perform in August—. 84 also offered a preview of their album "Bonita resaca" with "El verano que viene" and "Olas de Calor".

With Maldita Nerea, Starlite Occident Marbella confirms its Auditorium as a space where the most honest and emotional Spanish pop finds the audience that has spent decades making every song a shared soundtrack.
