Omar Montes jumped into the Starlite Occident Marbella Auditorium ring on August 28, 2024, with a show mixing trap, flamenco and rumba, premiering 'Churel' before the audience.
From Carabanchel boxing to a Grammy-nominated flamenquito
What Omar Montes does not lack is attitude, charm and desire to put on a great show. At Starlite Occident Marbella, the singer gave it all, before an audience captivated by his charisma and moves on stage, halfway between the boxing champion he was and the controversial rapper he is now. Omar made his public debut in sports as a Welterweight boxer, a category in which he was Spanish champion. Restless, he combined boxing with music until his television persona gave him the decisive boost to launch his music career from the Carabanchel neighbourhood.
Alocao, La Sevillana and the boldness toward flamenco
"La Rubia (Remix 2)", "Alocao" with Bad Gyal —four platinum records and weeks at number one—, "Patio de la Cárcel", "Llama del amor", "Japoni", "Diablita", "El Conjuntito", "Arena y sal" and "Prendío" all rang out. With "Lágrimas de un maleante", his latest album featuring Lola Índigo, Kiki Morente and Las Chuches, Omar takes on different flamenco palos: tangos, rumbas, sevillanas, tanguillos and even bulerías. This boldness earned him a 2023 Latin Grammy nomination for Best Flamenco Artist. "Matador", "La Sevillana" and "El Pantalón" —performed with Sara (Las Chuches)— lifted the Auditorium.
Churel premiered with Fabbio, Nickzzy and familiar faces
Omar Montes chose Starlite Occident Marbella to premiere an unreleased track: "Churel", with Fabbio, Samueliyo Baby, Nickzzy, Oscar El Ruso and Samuel G, who joined him on stage. He also included his latest single "El Más Chulo de España". "For me as an artist it's very important to perform at Starlite Occident. Thanks to everyone who came, without you I wouldn't be here," he said. He immortalised his first festival visit in 2021 in his documentary "El Principito es Omar Montes". The crowd included Sergio Scariolo with Blanca Ares, Joe Pérez Bonilla, Raúl Berdonés, Laura Gómez-Acebo Ponte and Kevin Villodres.
With Omar Montes, Starlite Occident Marbella reaffirms its Auditorium as a space where the most prejudice-free urban flamenquito finds the stage and the audience that rewards its boldness.
