Sara Baras

Date: 17 AugVenue: Marbella

Sara Baras returned to Starlite Occident Marbella on August 17, 2024, with 'Vuela', the show paying tribute to Paco de Lucía and celebrating 25 years of her company, in her seventh appearance at the festival.

Seventh visit of a dancer who considers the festival home

Sara Baras, who has been part of the Starlite Occident Marbella family since her first visit in 2013, returned to dazzle the Auditorium with her invaluable art. The reason for her return was to invite her Marbella audience to enjoy the magic of "Vuela", the show celebrating 25 years of her company and paying tribute to the great guitarist Paco de Lucía. "It's an honour to leave our soul here, at this festival we consider home. We travel the world and always come back. For me, it's very important to come back year after year and see we have grown," Baras said.

Madera, Mar, Muerte and Volar: four acts to Paco de Lucía

The title refers to the bulerías 'Volar' that the Master of Algeciras recorded on "Cositas Buenas". The show was divided into four acts organised around a word and fifteen choreographies. "Madera" refers to the strength of roots; "Mar" invites to sail on passion; "Muerte" explores human emotions; and "Volar" alludes to letting go in celebration and joy. The cantera fell silent when an imposing Sara appeared accompanied by a single guitar and the thunder of her tap. "La Barrosa" or "Canción de Amor" were among the Paco de Lucía songs that played while Sara and her dance company unfolded their art. There was zapateado, tientos, seguiriyas, rondeñas, alegrías, tangos and saetas.

Picoco's Band at Sessions and familiar faces

Sara Baras, with carefully crafted staging —6 light beams as guitar strings and an empty wicker chair recalling the honouree—; an outstanding dance company; a moving cante duo and Keko Baldomero's guitar as musical director, displayed her excellence. After the show, Picoco's Band with David Ascanio burst onto the Sessions stage with pop-rock covers of great Spanish hits from recent decades. Cristina Iglesias, influencer Ana Brito, actor Juanlu González, supermodel Valeria Mazza and businessman Vicente Boluda enjoyed the experience.

With Sara Baras, Starlite Occident Marbella reaffirms its Auditorium as the international home of flamenco and an altar for the great masters who celebrate their anniversaries before the audience they consider family.
