Simple Minds, music history, sold out at Starlite Occident Marbella on July 22, 2024, with their 'Global Tour 2024', their third festival visit with Antonio Banderas and Nicole Kimpel in the box.
Third visit of the Scottish pop-rock kings
Before Coldplay became a global phenomenon, previous decades had other groups filling stadiums. One of these was Simple Minds, who in the 80s and 90s lived their peak years performing to millions on five continents and being one of the protagonists of the legendary 1985 Live Aid. Their Starlite Occident Marbella show was part of "Global Tour 2024", the international tour that will have totalled over one million attendees by its end. "Good evening, Marbella. What a great pleasure to be here once again at Starlite Occident", they greeted. It was their third visit: 2012 (first edition) and 2022.
Direction of the Heart and the Live Aid anthems
Simple Minds, who began in Glasgow in 1977, played tracks from some of their latest albums like "Direction of the Heart" (2022) or "Walk Between Worlds" (2018). These compositions sounded more powerful live thanks to an excellent group of musicians and a passionate singer, Jim Kerr, who has always commanded the stage. The frenzy broke loose when they started playing their most emblematic hits: "Alive and Kicking", "Don't You Forget About Me", "Promise You a Miracle", "Someone Somewhere in the Summertime", "Belfast Child", "Sanctify Yourself" or "Big Sleep". The audience, on its feet and devoted, found it impossible not to surrender.

Almost 50 years on stage back Simple Minds as one of the most important groups in pop and rock history. Jim Kerr (original singer and leader) and Charlie Burchill (guitar and also founder) proved the Scottish lineup still has plenty of music ahead. Antonio Banderas and Nicole Kimpel enjoyed the concert from the presidential box alongside the festival's founder couple, Sandra García-Sanjuán and Ignacio Maluquer. Starlite Occident Marbella's international audience was happy at the privilege of seeing a band that is part of the history of pop and rock of all time.
With Simple Minds, Starlite Occident Marbella confirms its Auditorium as one of the mandatory European stops for the great British pop-rock names still active almost five decades later.
