Fifth visit of the Tiger of Wales to the Marbella cantera
For the fifth time in the festival's history, with overwhelming charisma, an impeccable voice and enviable energy, Tom Jones, at 84, made the most of his condition as an uppercase artist. Elegant and with that undeniable charmer pose, the Welsh tiger's roar filled and conquered the Auditorium of an intergenerational audience. A living legend of the 20th century, he gave people what they came for: a moving journey through the hits of his six decades of career. The show was structured around an extensive discography starting in the mid-60s and concluding with "Surrounded by time" (2021), the album that brought him back to the top of the British charts, making him the longest-living artist to do so.
I'm Growing Old, Sex Bomb and Prince's Kiss
Tom Jones opened his show with "I'm growing old", a cover of singer-songwriter Bobby Cole he started singing in the 70s that now, as an octogenarian, makes much more sense. After this song, he ran through his most recognisable hits: "It's not unusual", his first career number one; "Sex Bomb", an anthem since 1999; and "Delilah", the popular melody hiding a tragedy. Showing taste and elegance throughout, sharing stories and anecdotes, the British R&B, pop and soul crooner continued his magnetic show. Elvis-style, he sang "Green Green Grass of Home"; he nailed his cover of Burt Bacharach's "What's New Pussycat?" and thrilled with his version of Prince's "Kiss".
