Alan Parsons
Alan Parsons performed at Starlite Occident Marbella on June 30, 2026 to celebrate 50 years of The Alan Parsons Project. The British musician, who has devoted his career to sound, praised the natural acoustics of the quarry.
Half a century of The Alan Parsons Project
Before leading his own project, Parsons worked as a sound engineer on records such as Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon and on recordings by The Beatles, Paul McCartney, Al Stewart and Ambrosia. He later founded The Alan Parsons Project with Eric Woolfson, bringing together progressive rock, symphonic music and studio technology. Fifty years on, he chose the Marbella quarry to celebrate. "I've spent my whole life chasing the best possible sound. Finding a stage with acoustics like those of Starlite Occident is a real privilege," he said.
From Sirius to Edgar Allan Poe
He was joined on stage by The Alan Parsons Live Project: Jeff Kollman (guitar and vocals), Tom Brooks (keyboards), Todd Cooper (saxophone, percussion and vocals), Danny Thompson (drums), Dan Tracey (guitar and vocals), Guy Erez (bass) and vocalist P.J. Olsson. The set included "Time", "Don't Answer Me", "I Wouldn't Want to Be Like You", "Games People Play" and the "Sirius" / "Eye in the Sky" pairing, alongside the pieces inspired by Edgar Allan Poe: "The Raven", "The Tell-Tale Heart" and "The Cask of Amontillado".
A family tour and a guest from symphonic metal
Parsons arrived with his wife, Lisa, and his daughter Tabitha, who has been the tour's road manager for the past fifteen years. In the audience was Tarja Turunen, the Finnish singer and former Nightwish vocalist, with her husband and daughter. Before leaving, Parsons signed his stage scarf and left it on the Johnnie Walker striding man sculpture backstage. The night ended with a toast between the Parsons family and Sandra García-Sanjuán.
A sound engineer turned legend and a quarry known for its acoustics: the 50th anniversary of The Alan Parsons Project found a fitting stage at Starlite Occident Marbella.
