Grupo Frontera
Grupo Frontera performed at Starlite Occident Marbella on July 6, 2026, the same night as the Spain v Portugal World Cup round-of-16 match. The Texan band paused the concert to celebrate Mikel Merino's 90th-minute goal with the audience.
Music and football on the same night
Before going on stage, the band was following the match from the dressing room: "We're watching the Spain game, we're nervous and excited too!" Once the concert was under way, they stopped for a few moments to share Merino's decisive goal with the Auditorium, and the crowd responded with an ovation. At the end of the night they dedicated "Coqueta" to the Mexican national team, knocked out the day before: "Yesterday Mexico didn't go through... this one is for them." The victory celebrations carried on in the quarry into the early hours, with model and actress Eva Anderson and Mexican artist Bibiana Domit among those present.
From Starlite Occident Madrid to Marbella
Grupo Frontera made their Spanish and European debut in 2024 at Starlite Occident Madrid, when they were still an emerging act. Two years later they arrived in Marbella on a different scale. "We're happy to be playing here in Marbella today. This place is beautiful, spectacular," they said. Among cowboy hats and flags, the audience sang along to their songs of love and heartbreak, laughed at their jokes about "migajeros" – people who settle for the crumbs of an old love – and joined them in a tequila toast. They also congratulated the festival on its fifteen years: "When we started, we were five idiots wanting to play weddings and quinceañeras. Today we're in Marbella celebrating the most popular quinceañera."
Four years from Edinburg to the Grammys
The band formed in 2022 in Edinburg, Texas, where five friends started out playing covers on small stages along the border. Their norteño take on Morat's "No Se Va" went viral on TikTok and entered the Billboard Hot 100. Then came "un x100to" with Bad Bunny, which opened up the international market for them. In 2026 they have been nominated for the Grammy for Best Música Mexicana Album and for two Latin Grammys, for "Hecha Pa' Mí" and "Me Jalo", the latter with Fuerza Regida.
Grupo Frontera returned to a Starlite Occident stage two years after their European debut and left Marbella with a concert that included a goal.
