Jean-Michel Jarre
Jean-Michel Jarre played the Starlite Occident Marbella Auditorium on July 13, 2026 with a new show built on immersive sound, live artificial intelligence and 3D staging, opening the night with his thoughts on technology.
Immersive sound and staging designed by Jarre himself
The electronic music pioneer presented a ninety-minute show in Marbella with immersive sound, live artificial intelligence and 3D staging made of several layers of screens that he designed himself. In his own words, it combines high technology with a "poetic, organic and sensual" sensibility. Of the venue he said: "this place is very unusual, made for entertainment and for creating the unexpected".
"Robots don't cry. Not yet"
Before the first note, Jarre shared an idea: "we shouldn't be afraid of progress or technology". He explained that many of the visuals came out of work with artificial intelligence alongside his team and argued that "AI is neutral, it's just a tool", while stressing the importance of "always respecting authors and creators and their rights". "Evil existed before electricity, and it will exist after AI", he added. For him, artificial intelligence is above all "augmented imagination". Ahead of "Oxygène Part 2" he invited the audience into "my kitchen", comparing electronic music to "cooking frequencies, cooking waves, cooking harmonies... a bit like making a paella", and used a camera fitted to his glasses to show in real time how he was building the track.
Spain as inspiration and Gong Li in the Presidential Box
Before the final stretch, the French composer said Spain "has always been a great source of inspiration" for him, "from Velázquez to Picasso, from Gaudí to Almodóvar, from Albéniz to Rosalía", and described the country as a blend of "the tragedy you feel in flamenco" and "that unstoppable joy of living". He finished with a "¡Viva España!" that the audience returned at once. Chinese actress Gong Li, Jarre's partner, watched the concert from the Presidential Box with Sandra García-Sanjuán.
Jean-Michel Jarre's night at Starlite Occident Marbella began with a reflection on the future and ended with an audience at the Cantera de Nagüeles in no hurry to leave.
