John Legend
John Legend returned to Starlite Occident Marbella on July 20, 2026, seven years after his first appearance, with a concert conceived as a journey through the memories and people behind his songs.
"The home of the world champions"
The concert took place a day after the World Cup final, and he acknowledged it from his first words: "What a joy to be back at Starlite Occident Marbella. What a beautiful moment to be in Spain, the home of the world champions". From then on the night moved away from a conventional tour format. Legend described the auditorium as "a unique place in the world" and used it to talk with the audience as much as to sing.
From Springfield to becoming John Legend
He started with his childhood in Springfield, Ohio, where he grew up surrounded by music at his family's church and where his grandmother taught him to play the piano. He recalled her death, when he was ten: "I think she's still watching me from somewhere". He also spoke about the depression and addiction that kept his mother away from the family for years, and about how that story ended: she has now been in recovery for decades. He looked back on his years as a consultant at Boston Consulting Group, before leaving it all for music, and on the moment Kanye West began calling him "John Legend".
Where All of Me came from
Legend told how he met Chrissy Teigen on the set of a music video and how he wrote "All of Me" while they were engaged; the first time he performed it was on their wedding day. He recalled that at fifteen he had already written that he wanted to use his success to fight for a fairer society. And he closed with this thought: "We've grown used to too much technology and too much artifice. I think we all need to get back to being real, vulnerable and connected to one another".
On his return to Starlite Occident Marbella, John Legend let the audience get to know not just the songs but the life behind them.
