Nile Rodgers and Chic
Nile Rodgers and Chic played the Cantera of Starlite Occident Marbella on August 26, 2026, with a set that covered more than four decades of disco and pop.
Songs by Chic, Diana Ross, Sister Sledge and David Bowie
Rodgers explained it at the start: as well as writing and producing his own band's songs, he has done so for artists such as Diana Ross, Sister Sledge, Madonna, David Bowie, Duran Duran and Daft Punk. The concert took in the Chic classics "Le Freak", "Everybody Dance", "Dance, Dance, Dance" and "I Want Your Love", along with Diana Ross's "I'm Coming Out" and "Upside Down", Sister Sledge's "Greatest Dancer" and "We Are Family", and David Bowie's "Modern Love", "China Girl" and "Let's Dance".
A tribute to Bernard Edwards and Dolly Parton
The musician dedicated part of the concert to Bernard Edwards, the Chic co-founder who died in 1996, and to his friend Dolly Parton. He asked the audience to light up their phones: "Make it look like the stars in the sky." The Cantera was lit by the audience's phones. Marta Sánchez and King África were among those in the crowd.
Madonna, Beyoncé and a "Good Times" finale
Rodgers recalled that Madonna overruled his plan to release "Material Girl" as the first single and chose "Like a Virgin", which also became the album title. "Tonight, Madonna is not here and it's my stage. Can I do both songs?" he joked before playing both. He also mentioned "Cuff It", his collaboration with Beyoncé, which in 2023 won him the Grammy for Best R&B Song on the same night he received the Lifetime Achievement Award. The concert ended with Chic's "Good Times".
From "Le Freak" to "Good Times", Nile Rodgers and Chic's night at Starlite Occident Marbella was a run through songs the audience already knew by heart.
